Notes: IRON 4. Defense 9 is the Soldier baseline (source gives only IRON, Pool, HP). A mute giant. Poles a flatboat through the swamp; knows safe paths through the Thousand-Lantern Fen and across the Two-Mouth Spring.
A mute giant who poles a flatboat through the swamp. Knows safe paths through the Thousand-Lantern Fen — the field of corpse-candles that lures travelers to drowning — and the seasonal currents of the Two-Mouth Spring.
The Ferryman is never named. His price is whatever feels right when you climb aboard; he accepts it silently and adjusts his expression not at all. Pay too little and you simply don’t get the trip you needed. Pay too much and you’ve established a precedent that the rest of the Fen will hear about.
Tactics
The Ferryman is a Soldier-tier combatant who would rather not fight. His real weapons are the boat (which he steers with terrifying skill through hazards no one else navigates) and the pole (which is weighted iron and very long). He has never been seen to draw a knife or a gun.
Plot Anchor
Any plot that requires reaching a specific point in the Fen — the swamp center for Mother Elaine’s herb, a Brood Mother island, the Cypress Cathedral — requires the Ferryman. He chooses whether the trip happens, and his refusal cannot be bought once given.
