The Sanctuary

Quiet, magical, terrified of discovery
Region
The Graven Plain

A hidden valley in the Graven Plain, cloaked by psionic illusions. The entrance looks like a deadly rockslide. Inside: a lush (if strange) refuge for the Hollowborn — those touched by the Veil who flee Redeemer persecution. The population is small but genetically diverse due to the constant trickle of refugees.

The TitheEveryone works. Farm, scavenge, teach, or fight.

Notes on the Sanctuary

Elder Rhun, the oldest Seer on the Frontier, presides from a preservation tank deep beneath the Dovecote. He no longer speaks aloud — communicates telepathically. Sister Vesper, a former Redeemer who defected after one of her own pyres took an innocent child, trains the Ash-Guard militia in how Inquisitors think and fight.

Availability quirks: medical care is free, but requires service in return — the Circle never takes Scrip. Clean water is free. Psionic gear and Grimoires are abundant. Standard weapons are limited (this isn’t a fighting town). Special ammunition is unavailable.

Districts

The Dovecote

Massive library carved into the canyon walls. Largest collection of pre-Rupture books and Grimoires in the West. Resource: learn new Talents here without Scrip cost — but tuition is paid in dangerous missions.

The Garden

Terraced farms where Flesh Shapers grow mutant crops. Food tastes metallic but sustains life. Hazard: long-term residents slowly change. Eyes turn violet. Skin becomes translucent.

Plot Hooks

Threads waiting to be pulled. GM-facing prompts.

The Inquisitor

A Redeemer Inquisitor has found Palomera's trail. He hasn't reported back yet. Find and silence him before he reaches a radio.

The Fading Ward

The illusion concealing the valley is powered by a cracking Ley-Crystal. The party must venture into Ojo del Diablo to find a replacement.

Environmental Mechanics

  • Concealment: The valley entrance is psionically illusioned to appear as a deadly rockslide. Only the invited (or the desperately lucky) find it.
  • The Silence: No one leaves without permission. Betraying the location is punished by memory-wipe (Mindweaver execution).
  • The Tithe: Everyone works. Farm, scavenge, teach, or fight. Free riders are not tolerated.
  • Long-term Hollowing in the Garden: residents slowly take on Hollowborn features (violet eyes, translucent skin).
